Inspiration: Resplendent Rugs

Rugs are a bit of a magical element in an interior designer’s arsenal. The right choice of rug can create separation between areas in a larger room, add warmth to cool floors, bring just the right texture to a space. But what’s the right rug vibe for your place? Here’s a bit of inspiration to get the creative juices flowing.

It’s double the fun with this mirrored layout living room. These rugs add texture and warmth to the airy space, but the light colour blends well with the white floor and doesn’t break up the room. The black geometric pattern ties in with the windows and shelving, bringing¬†everything together. See more of the NYC loft on Design Milk.

Maybe blending in is the last thing you want in a rug. A retro rug like this one by A Rum Fellow for Floor Story will be the centre of attention. Go full throwback with vintage furniture, or offset the bold art deco style with some sleek modern pieces.

For a bit of colour in a less out there design you could go with some thin stripes like this one we spotted on Love Chic Living. A style like this could provide the basis for your whole colour scheme, anchoring your couch, wall colours, and even bookshelf display as demonstrated here.

If your style’s a bit more bohemian Indian, Moroccan, and classic Persian rugs are all good choices. Vibrant colours and intricate patterns will compliment¬†the arty, collector style of decorating. We’re loving this one by Loloi.

Sometimes one rug just isn’t enough, so why not layer? Mix and match colours and styles, put a small one over a big one, or just overlap the ends to cover a long room. Get some more layered rug inspiration on Apartment Therapy.
